Chappaquiddick

This morning we headed to Edgartown to catch the On Time Ferry over to Chappaquiddick. It's a quick 2 minute ferry ride to the small, quiet island. (Only 172 people actually live there) I believe there's one gas station and not much else-other than beautiful beaches. Of course the island's most notoriously known for Dike Bridge and the Kennedy accident that took place there in July of 1969. It has since been rebuilt.... On a much lighter note we found the perfect spot to land; a gorgeous beach with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Katama Bay on the other. We were not alone...not many people
but...

lots of sea creatures! A sting ray (about 10" in diameter) stayed about 5 feet out from our perch! Needless to say we kept our eye on that little friend.

Clams, clams and more clams....

and littleneck clams (all over the bottom of the bay)

The Atlantic was pretty rough today (and there have been some shark sightings off MV this week) so we didn't go out far, but the kids had a ball waiting on the waves to reach them.

To the left is Katama Bay, to the right is the Atlantic. You can't tell from this shot, but the top of this ledge falls sharply downward on either side. The children needed to run up a steep slope to escape the tide-of course that just added to the fun!

A great day at the beach!

That is a great way to spend a day (or, in your case, a month!). Every day is an adventure for those kids (and y'all)!
